Winter Wonderland

[J.Crew sweater, Express tank, Exhilaration leggings, Steven Madden boots, L.A.M.B. bag, bracelet from Fringe]

As winter in Michigan has literally been nonexistent (not that i'm complaining), it has allowed me to wear warm light basics without looking too bulky. Being generally large chested it has been difficult to find horizontally striped sweaters that don't add an additional 30 pounds to my frame. This J.Crew sweater was the best find this season by far as it's flashy enough to wear out at night, but also neutral enough to throw on with some black leggings and comfortable boots.

Back a few weekends ago, on like the one day of the winter that there was actually snow on the ground, Nina and I spent the morning in Royal Oak to check out a great new brunch spot called What Crepe?. While it has only been in recent years that I've enjoyed eating breakfast,
this place will make even the pickiest breakfast fall in love with their food.

My go to coat in the past two winters has been my gifted teal wool coat from my mom. I love the bright color which stands out in the ugly grey winters we usually experience here.

Electric Blue

[Express sweater, Madewell jeans, Forever 21 necklace & scarf, Fringe earrings, L.A.M.B. tote, Aldo booties]

I'm not usually a fan of pants and on most days you'll find me wearing a skirt or a dress, but as a New Years Resolution for 2012 I was determined to find pants that not only flatter me but are also comfortable to wear. I finally found these Madewell jeggings to be the one style of jeans to fit my comfort/flattering requirements, and as a result i've pretty much bought them in just about every color possible. These electric blue are by far my favorite pair and are just the most perfect hue for spring.

I'm a huge fan of Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. handbag line and this tote has been my favorite for a long time. The bag with it's basic black background with multi-colored dripped lettering allow me to grab and go no matter what outfit I'm wearing.

Vegan Mushroom Soup

[ Thin Rice Noodles, Sesame oil, lime, light soy sauce, vegetable stock, garlic, mushrooms, ginger and spinach]

My family really loves all types of soups, and prefer to have soup at every meal. My mom literally makes the best soups ever and throughout the years has come up with some great original soup recipes that she continuously promises to teach me to make "later".

Since I've recently taken up cooking meals for my family on the weekend, I've enjoyed brining some new flavors into our kitchen. I usually prefer soups that are heavy with veggies and this recipe was the perfect choice. Quick and easy to make in a short amount of time, it has quickly made a place in our weekly soup rotation.

P.S. My food photography isn't the best yet, but i promise I'm working on it!

[Note: I didn't have Soba Noodles in the house so I used Rice Noodles]

Out n' About

[Express faux leather jacket & tights, Forever 21 dress & belt, Steve Madden booties]

This has by far been the best winter ever in Michigan. We've barely had any snow on the ground this year, but we've had just enough where I don't miss it terribly. The weather has expanded my wardrobe extensively and I've been able to take many of my staple summer dress and wear them this winter.

My best friend Nina has recently moved back to Michigan and I'm excited to have my shopping buddy back! On those casual Saturdays where we roam from store to store, or check out some of the local shops in local downtown areas, I like to wear thin layers that keep me warm but also give me enough room to frolic. All accessorized by the perfect hobo bag that keeps everything in one messy place.

Hello World!

Hello world and welcome to my blog! I’m Monica and I’m a 24-year-old style & food blogger from the metro Detroit area. I was raised by a 100% Polish family who are loud, obnoxious, straight to the point but can cook enough food to feed a third world country on any given Sunday.

It’s been a long time goal of mine to start this blog and I’m excited to finally get it started! I couldn’t do it without my best friend Nina who helped with get my blog started.

My style throughout the years has changed from a pink-obsessed Barbie-esque style in high school, to the “I care less” style of college, to my career woman style of feminine with an attitude.
I’m excited to share my style and life with all of you!

[Forever 21 clutch, Madewell ring]

[GUESS? pumps]

My new favorite comfortable night outfit includes a great pair of the most perfect black jeans ever, with a simple white sweater that’s warm but breathable at the same time.
I like to use my Guess? pumps and emerald green clutch as my pop of color to take a simple black and white outfit into something more.
