When the rainy weather hits, it takes a lot of effort to get yourself out for a night on the town. Living in a large city like Chicago, there is never a shortage of things to see, do, and explore with your friends. From Sunday brunches to movie nights to museum events, the city can become quite an expensive place to spend time with your closest friends.
So this month why not shake things up a bit and save money in the process by hosting an ultimate grown up game night. With the right games, the perfect bottle of wine, and some delicious snack; a night in with your friends could be the best money you never spend.
How do you throw the ultimate grown up game night? I’m sharing my favorite tips on creating the perfect game night experience your friends won’t soon forget.
:: PICK YOUR SQUAD ::
The key to a perfect game night is making sure you have just the right amount of guests. Whenever I host a game night with my friends, I like to ensure that there is an odd number to my squad. It keeps things exciting and the conversation flowing when your friends aren’t all paired up. Plus it’s a great way to get to know your friends on a more personal level.
:: WINE GLASSES UP ::
As the weather has warmed up I’ve given up my go-to red in favor of a delicious chilled California chardonnay. I recently discovered a newly launched wine, Notables California Chardonnay, and I’m loving the hints of vanilla, oak, and butter notes that the wine has. The brand also carries a Australian Chardonnay with hints of citrus, melon, and peach.
It’s so much easier to pick our your favorite wine when the flavor notes are right on the bottle!
:: SMALL BITES ::
Game Night should be fun and active, and the best way to keep the party going is to skip the heavy meal and focus on the small bites. Keeping your hands free to crush the next round of the game.
I personally love to put together a simple cheese plate that really highlights the wine I’m serving. Notables Chardonnay goes great with a soft herbed goat cheese and a few slices of a sharp cheddar. I always keep a jar of kalamata olives around for a unique flavor combination that goes so well with the flavors of the wine.
Another classic favorite of mine is popcorn! Not just any popcorn either. My S’mores popcorn is always a crowd pleaser and so simple to make for a unique desert type item.
